KYC (Know Your Customer) is a required identity verification process used by cryptocurrency firms to help prevent fraud, protect customer accounts, and comply with financial regulations.
Why you need to complete KYC
You may be asked to complete KYC to:
- Buy, sell, deposit, or withdraw crypto/fiat
- Increase account limits
- Access certain features (varies by region)
- Keep your account secure and compliant
What you’ll need (before you start)
Prepare the following:
- A government-issued photo ID (one of the following, depending on your country):
- Passport
- Driver’s license
- National ID card
- A phone or computer with a camera
- Good lighting so your ID and face are clearly visible
- Your personal details (legal name, date of birth, address)
Some customers may also need:
- Proof of address (if requested), such as:
- Utility bill
- Bank statement
- Government letter
(Usually must be recent—often within the last 3 months.)
Step-by-step: How to complete KYC
- Sign in to your account
- Open the verification page
- Look for Verify Identity, KYC, or Identity Verification in your account settings.
- Enter your personal information
- Make sure your name matches your ID exactly (including middle names, accents, and spacing).
- Upload your ID
- Use clear images (no blur, glare, or cropped edges).
- Upload the correct side(s) if your ID has a front and back.
- Complete the selfie / liveness check (if prompted)
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
- Remove hats, sunglasses, and masks (unless required for medical/religious reasons).
- Submit and wait for review
- Verification may be automatic or may take additional time depending on volume and checks required.
Tips to avoid delays
- Use your legal name (no nicknames).
- Make sure the ID is valid and not expired.
- Take photos in bright, even lighting.
- Ensure the entire ID is visible (all corners in frame).
- Don’t edit or filter images.
- If asked for proof of address, make sure:
- It shows your full name and address
- It is recent
- The document is fully visible
Common reasons KYC fails (and how to fix it)
- Blurry or dark images → Retake photos in better lighting.
- Glare or reflections → Tilt the ID slightly and avoid flash.
- Name mismatch → Update your profile details to match your ID.
- Expired document → Use a valid, unexpired ID.
- Document not accepted → Upload an accepted document type for your country.
What happens after you’re verified?
Once approved, you’ll be able to use the features available for your region and account level (for example, higher limits or withdrawals).
